Wang Zhongyi
Wang Zhongyi, Chinese painter, associate professor, was born in Xi’an in 1949. Now he is a professional painter of Tong Chuan Traditional Chinese Painting Academy, the standing vice president of Shanxi Chinese Painting Academy, a member of Shanxi Chinese Culture Research Society and the professor of Xi’an Oriental Arts College for Advanced Studies.
While he was a little boy, he practised Chinese Kungfu. Later, he attended school. It was not until he was in his 30s that he began to study Traditional Chinese Painting. After eight-year long self-study with great will and perseverance because of not having been accepted as a disciple, he grasped a good opportunity and was recommended by professor Luo Ming to attended the Traditional Chinese Painting Department of Xi’an Art Academy. There, he has learned flower and bird painting for three years from Mr. Liu Baoshen and Mr. Zhang Zhiguang. After graduation, he has stayed in Liao Xinlou for seven years, which is located in the south of Chang’an city, and put his heart and soul into Chinese Painting creations with great concentration. He learns Zen well and always comments on paintings from Zen’s perspective. His creations are involved in Traditional Chinese Medicine, folk-customs and people. He consults the Book of Tactics, combines Kungfu with poetry writing in Chinese Painting creation, expressing the essence of paintings through daily life trivia and telling the philosophically words through common people’s words.
When he draws, he draws in a impressive way. Between consciousness and unconsciousness, his painting is changeable constantly and the whole process of painting is extremely enjoyable. His works is remarked by other painters in the circle like this “ it is both delicacy and uninhibited just as a warrior will not lose it mighty while he is in gentle temper. It is natural, unrestrained and reasonable like a hermit will not lose delightfulness though living in a humble house.
Being highly valued the research on morality and rule, he has special views on the layout of Traditional Chinese Painting. Dissertations like on the Layout of Traditional Chinese Painting, On Imagery, Trail Research, Wushu and Traditional Chinese Painting, Dao and Techniques of Drawing and Using Chinese Ink were published respectively.
Until now, Wang Zhongyi has held five exhibitions of his works successfully. His works are collected by Collection of Elaborated Works of Contemporary Famous Painters of Chang’an, Collection of the Works of Chinese Contemporary Famous Painters of Flower and Bird and Collection of Sino-Japan Exchange Exhibition on Calligraphy and Drawing. His personal biography brief is compiled into Modern Masters in Fine Arts. Besides, in 2000 and 2001, he was awarded a golden cup for Talents of Shanxi Province in 2002, in the same year, another golden cup was awarded to him in the First Flower and Bird Drawing Exhibition by Arts Society of Shan’xi.
His works is popular with many people, especially collectors. In recent years, many paintings have won prizes for him. Wang Zhongyi is really a powerful painter.
