Bai Xueshi
Beijing citizen.He began to be fond of painting since he was young. He was taught by Mr. Zhao Mengzhu, famous painter of flowers and birds of traditional Chinese style , when he was in middle school in 1932.In 1933, he joined Hushe Painters Association .In 1935,he took Liang Shunian as his teacher and studied mountains-and-waters painting. In 1942,he joined Beijing Painting Research Society. In 1950s, he joined Beijing Research Society of Chinese traditional painting. In 1960s, he joined the National Artist Association. From 1959 to 964, he was lecturer in Beijing Art Normal College and Beijing Art College. From 1964 to 1984,early or later, he worked as lecturer, vice professor, professor in the Central College of Industrial Art. During the years, he took his students to go for paint from life to Guilin, Huangshan Mountain, Taishan Mountain and so on. He went for nearly all famous mountains and waters, enjoyed the beautiful natural scenery, which improved his art creation greatly. During the 20 years since 1977, he has been invited to create over 50 large paintings for the Central and South Lake、Great Hall of the People、Diaoyutai State Guest House and big hotels like Beijing Hotel. From 1980 to 1996,he visited and held painting exhibitions in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the U.S. for many times.
And he has published different kinds of books including Bai Xueshi Painting Collection, Bai Xueshi Painting Selection, Recent Painting of Bai Xueshi, and some painting chart、brushwork and picture record of his exhibitions. His painting is combination of delicate and freehand brushwork with great skill. He specializes in painting the scenery of Lijiang River. The unique painting style of Bai Xueshi is well appreciated by people.
